Gary, Lyn and Dee discuss politics and current events. Dee is back from her three week non-vacation, vacation. Our first reminder is it’s not too late to vote in the Colorado primaries. Take your completed ballot to a drop off location! Remember if you received two ballots as an independent voter, you can only turn in one. Gary of course brings up Rank Choice Voting. He has high hopes of that someday coming to statewide elections. (It is already being done in some Colorado cities.) We discuss the situation down at the US-Mexico border. It is heartbreaking, but it is approved by more than 50% of Republican voters. (There does seem to be a large margin of error in that statistic.) We discuss Paul Krugman’s NY Times article on the Republican administration’s plan to cut food assistance. We are taking food away from active duty soldiers, veterans, retirees, children and the working poor. Somehow the Republicans see starvation as an incentive? We discuss the confluence of corruption, it has really reached peak corruption when FIFA holds a sporting event in Russia. We discuss how banks are unprepared for any future economic downturn. We discuss how tariffs and a trade war have adversely effected middle America. It is interesting how a lot of this is going to hit Republican voters the hardest. We finish with Robert Reich’s eight rules for reporting on this administration.
