Four persons have declared their intention to run for Colorado Springs mayor in 2023. Does one have too much baggage? Does a novice stand a chance? Retreads anyone? What are the candidate’s interests and what do they hope to accomplish? This question should be asked of every candidate. Should Colorado Springs disband the Human Rights Commission? What’s a Diversity Office? More management issues at Colorado Springs Utilities?
Did development around Garden of the Gods work out well? The city says they don’t need outside fire mitigation studies. Is the city circling the wagons to protect development in the Wildland Urban Interface?

Do you think that anyone in the city hierarchy – including Parks – fully comprehends and appreciates the magnitude of the paleontological discoveries which have been made thus far in Corral Bluffs? I mean this in the sense of taking extraordinary (and possibly unpopular) steps with regard to putting in place irrevocable measures to protect that land and surrounding areas* for further exploration to be conducted only at the hands of highly-qualified scientists and field workers.
*It isn’t clear to me how big an area surrounding the initial discoveries at Corral Bluffs should be defended. I’m not aware that that determination has been made at the highest scientific level? As a scientist myself, what I do know is that what has been discovered thus far is of inestimable value in terms of our understanding of the history and development of humankind. It just doesn’t get more important than that.
