A roundup of noteworthy local happenings from two former Colorado Springs city councilors who return to the studio after a 4-year break. Jan Martin and Jill Gaebler were the first Studio 809 podcasters, launching their CityTalk podcast in 2016. In this episode they catch us up on their passion projects, and more.
Peak Town Square Producer Dave Gardner invited Jill and Jan back to the studio for what could become a recurring feature. This conversation visits changes at CONO; bike lanes and the growth of PikeRide; the city’s eScooter pilot program; e-Bikes, Segways and road construction at the Garden of the Gods; creating a vision for Monument and Fountain Creeks; replacing retiring city councilor Richard Skorman; and what will come of the Martin Drake Power Plant after complete decommissioning.
A few highlights of civic engagement: Jan Martin is president of the Garden of the Gods Foundation, and formerly served on the boards of the Pioneers Museum, Rocky Mountain PBS and several other local non-profits. She served on Colorado Springs City Council from 2007 – 2015. Jill Gaebler serves on the Southwest Chief and & Front Range Passenger Rail Commission, chairs the board of Pike Ride, served on the board of Homeward Pikes Peak, and served on Colorado Springs City Council from 2013 – 2021.
