Gary, Lyn and Dee discuss topics of the day and politics.

We start with a bit of good news, King Soopers (or Krogers) has a way to donate to your favorite charity, if available.  You’ll need to have a King Sooper’s reward card and created an account to link it on their website.  Log into your King Soopers account.  Click on My Account.  Click on Community Rewards.  Search for the organization you wish to support.  There are a number of different organizations to donate to–one of them is Pikes Peak Library District.

We talk about the new program in California, CalSavers.  It’s a retirement account program available to everyone working in California.  It can be automatically deducted from paychecks, no matter where you work.

We discuss public transit and corporations trying to kill it.  In the 1950s it was car manufacturers.  Nowadays it is the fossil fuel industry.  (Especially the Koch brothers.)

Where are your tax dollars going?  Are they going to stadiums?  Or, are they being increased because some company is getting a huge tax free promise from the city or state?  What happens to surrounding neighborhoods and schools when corporations don’t have to pay their fair share?

We talk briefly about the role greed has in our increasing inequality.

We discuss Democratic candidates for the president.

Who started the Amazon forest fires?  Did you know that the Amazon forest produces 20% of the oxygen in the atmosphere.  1 out of every 5 breaths you take is due to this endangered tropical rain forest.

Lyn has our Word du Jour–Lame Duck.
